SPORTCITIES 2025 Destinations: Keys to turning your city into a benchmark for sports tourism

10 types of sports tourism by Autonomous Communities

Madrid, August 11, 2025

Sport is consolidating its role as a driver of economic, social and tourism development in many cities around the world. With the aim of training and inspiring public officials and sector professionals, SPORTCITIES Destinations 2025 arrives as a strategic forum to be held on November 19 and 20 in Valencia, within the framework of the SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit.

Under the motto “Spain, a sportfriendly destination”, the event offers tools, ideas and successful models so that municipalities of all sizes can enhance their appeal through sports tourism. The forum is structured into four thematic blocks, spread across two working days with keynote speeches, panel discussions and professional networking.

November 19 – The public role in the sports transformation of cities

The first day will focus on the institutional vision and territorial policies. Following a high-level institutional opening, strategies for developing sports tourism from regional and local planning perspectives will be addressed.

  • The first panel will bring together public officials to discuss how to integrate sports tourism into territorial planning, maximize the economic and social impact of sport, and turn it into a strategic axis for revitalization.
  • In the second panel, municipal leaders will share practical experiences on how to attract sports events, promote physical activity among the population and adapt urban infrastructures to modern sports tourism.

November 20 – Innovation, infrastructure and commercialization of the sports destination

The second day will be oriented toward public-private collaboration and operational models. It will begin with a presentation of inspiring sports tourism models that are transforming territories.

  • In the first panel of the day, sector professionals will analyze the criteria that tourism operators and sports promoters consider key when choosing destinations for their activities: from connectivity and accommodation to institutional support or climate conditions.
  • The following session will focus on how medium-sized and small municipalities can leverage their infrastructures to attract sports tourism, including examples of multi-purpose facilities and natural spaces monetized through tourism.
  • The closing session will address how to sell a city as a sports destination: from destination marketing strategies to tourism commercialization techniques and competitive positioning in national and international markets.

SPORTCITIES: a strategic forum for public officials and sector companies

SPORTCITIES Destinations 2025 is presented as a unique space to exchange experiences, identify opportunities and create synergies. Aimed at mayors, councilors, municipal technicians, sports managers and tourism officials, the forum also opens the door to collaboration with the private sector, generating new possibilities for investment, promotion and growth.

Sport is no longer just an activity; it is a strategic lever for transforming territories. SPORTCITIES is the ideal platform for cities and companies to explore the future of sports tourism together.
