Valencia, November 27, 2025.

The professional trade show specialized in infrastructure, equipment, maintenance and services for sports facilities, SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit, opened its doors on November 19 in Valencia, bringing together more than 1,500 professional attendees along with strong institutional and sector-wide support.

Municipal representatives from nearly 200 city councils across Spain attended the event to discover initiatives, suppliers and services that will help accelerate their modernization, digitalization, sustainability and efficiency projects for the sports facilities they manage, strengthening what aims to become the leading meeting point for the entire sports facilities ecosystem across Southern Europe, especially for public administrations, public-private managers and final decision-makers throughout the value chain.

This “zero edition” of SPORTCITIES featured, on its opening day, the Director General of Sports of the Generalitat Valenciana, Luis Cervera, who inaugurated the event and highlighted that the sports industry already represents around 2% of GDP, as well as the Director General of Sports of the Regional Government of Castilla y León, Enrique Sánchez-Guijo, both of whom advocated for “a Spain that leads sports innovation” and emphasized the importance of sport as “health.”

Cervera was accompanied by Julio Delgado, Director General of Industry, and José Manuel Camarero, Director General of Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana.

The project, co-organized by Feria Valencia, Feria de Valladolid and the private trade fair operator Show2be, is supported by the regional administrations of the Valencian Community and Castilla y León, as well as the city councils and sports entities of both cities.

As a key meeting point for the sports, urban and institutional ecosystem, SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit also counted on the active collaboration of leading sector organizations such as FEMP, AEESDAP, SEED, FNEID, FAGDE, ASPEC, Spain is Sport, Turesport, HOSBEC, COLECV, GEPACV, the Valencian Sports Industry Cluster, IAKS and AGEDECYL, consolidating itself as a unique platform connecting administrations, professionals and companies around the future of the sports ecosystem.

In the words of its Director, Raúl Calleja, “SPORTCITIES, in its official launch edition, has managed to bring together municipal leaders from all autonomous communities and regions of the peninsula, a clear reflection of the need it addresses: offering real solutions to municipalities that view sport as a driver of development and growth. It has done so alongside sports managers, architects, technicians, prescribers, the sports-tourism ecosystem and leaders in innovation for sports facility services.”

Calleja also highlights that “we are living in a time when efficiency, sustainability and digitalization are transforming the sector, and SPORTCITIES has positioned itself as the space where all this knowledge is shared, connected and projected toward the future. Never before has the sports sector been so empowered thanks to public-private collaboration. Valladolid, next stop: October 2026.”
