SPORTCITIES arrives in Valencia, the tool for modernising public and private sports facilities
Madrid, July 21, 2025
Spain has one of the largest stocks of sports facilities in Europe, but all investment needs renewal, and the country’s facilities are no exception. According to sector estimates, at least 35% of these municipal infrastructures require an upgrade to meet current standards of accessibility, sustainability, safety and energy efficiency. Added to this is the growing role these infrastructures play in public health, active tourism and the local economy, factors that have turned sports facilities into a strategic asset for administrations and the private sector.
In this context, the sector will have the opportunity to come together at a professional meeting point that allows all involved stakeholders to connect: from public administrations and sports managers to architects, construction companies, operators of high-performance centers, technology providers, medical services and sports tourism companies. This is a need that SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit now seeks to address, a new event that aims to become the benchmark for the sports facilities ecosystem in Spain and Southern Europe.
A strategic project to energize the industry
SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit will hold its first edition in Valencia on November 19 and 20, 2025, and already has its venue confirmed for 2026 in Valladolid, shaping what its organizers call the “diagonal axis of sport” in Spain. The project is driven by Feria Valencia, Feria de Valladolid and SHOW2BE, with the ambition of establishing an annual event that combines exhibition, sector congress, networking and activities open to the public.
“It is a sector that is growing from the point of view of the renovation of facilities to meet standards of accessibility, sustainability, safety and energy efficiency,” explains Raúl Calleja, director of SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit.
SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit will be held in Valencia in November 2025
The event has designed a specific value proposition to drive real connections between supply and demand. The exhibition will feature a 10,000-square-meter sector showroom, with a modern, agile and visual format. “It is designed to be simple, visual and affordable. We do not want the cost of a stand to be a barrier for companies to participate and generate a network of contacts,” notes Calleja.
This space will be complemented by the Congress Talks Summit, a professional forum where new business models, good administrative practices, technological innovation, green startups oriented toward cities, and key topics such as sustainability, energy efficiency and comprehensive management of sports infrastructures will be addressed.
In addition, SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit aims to extend its impact beyond the walls of the exhibition venue with City Week, an initiative that will bring activities open to the city of Valencia to bring the event closer to citizens and highlight the role of sport and its facilities in urban life. “The congress and the festival are key pillars: one to generate knowledge, the other to connect with citizens, who are the ones who truly benefit from better sports facilities,” Calleja argues.
Representing the entire ecosystem
To ensure this representativeness, SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit has been structured around seven major areas covering everything from sports infrastructure and technology to active tourism, inclusive fitness, health and medical services. Among the sectors brought together are companies and professionals from construction and maintenance, technology for sports facilities, equipment for fitness and wellness centers, solutions for high performance and sports medicine, health and wellness services, active tourism and startups focused on healthy cities.
Multiplying opportunities and building networks
The objective of the event is to facilitate for exhibitors the generation of real business, qualified leads and new opportunities for collaboration between the public and private sectors. “It is essential for mayors, managers and companies to be able to meet face to face, touch, see and compare the latest developments in the sector. SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit is that meeting point between supply and demand,” Calleja emphasizes.
The organizers also expect this new professional trade show to serve to generate sector knowledge, share best practices and highlight the innovations that are transforming the management of sports infrastructures in Spain and Europe. “There is no major event in Southern Europe where all the innovations of the sports sector are presented. We want to fill that gap and connect those who decide with those who transform,” Calleja concludes.
