  • The SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit project, co-organized by Feria Valencia, Feria de Valladolid, and the trade fair operator SHOW2BE, was officially launched today in Valencia, at an event presided over by Mr. Luis Cervera, Director General of Sport for the Valencian Government.
  • The initiative, a pioneer in its sector, has been supported by leading institutions, authorities, and companies in the Valencian Community, a region where the sports activities sector achieved an economic impact of nearly €2 billion in 2021, according to official sources.
  • Raúl Calleja, director of SPORCITIES, drew on recent market data to explain the rationale for this proposal: in the first quarter of 2025 alone, public investment in sports equipment projects amounted to €419.3 million, 131.2% more than in the same period the previous year.
  • Under the slogan "Cities in Motion," SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit will hold its first edition from November 19th to 20th in Valencia. It is presented as the first professional trade show in southern Europe specializing in infrastructure, equipment, maintenance, and services for sports facilities.

Valencia, May 7, 2025

The sports facilities ecosystem now has a strong ally in consolidating its position as one of the most promising industries in Spain: the SPORTCITIES Expo&Summit trade show, a new annual event designed to become a benchmark for the sports facilities sector in Southern Europe.

On November 19 and 20, SPORTCITIES will launch in Valencia as a sectoral meeting point, bringing together facility managers, municipal technicians, sports department managers, architects, engineers, service companies, suppliers, and public and private decision-makers.

The project was presented this Wednesday, May 7, at Feria Valencia in an event presided over by Mr. Luis Cervera, Director General of Sports for the Valencian Government, and enjoyed broad institutional, sectoral, and media support.

Cervera noted that these types of meetings are an "opportunity to relaunch the sector" and highlighted the Valencian Government's "commitment" to an industry "that generates employment and wealth." He also thanked the project's promoters for their "contribution" to the economic growth of the sports facilities sector.

The event was opened by Jorge Fombellida, general manager of Feria Valencia, who expressed his "great enthusiasm" for this initiative and highlighted "the importance and extraordinary value" of SPORTCITIES as a meeting point for the sector.

For his part, Raúl Calleja, director of SPORTCITIES, focused on the more technical development of the proposal and gave prominence to the socioeconomic data of an industry that has continued to grow over the last three years.

"In the first quarter of 2025 alone, public investment in sports facilities totaled €419.3 million, 131.2% more than the same period last year," Calleja stated, citing official figures to support the added value of this initiative.

Calleja also emphasized that “SPORTCITIES not only serves the industry, but also cities, towns, territories... in short, citizens.”

Valencia-Valladolid: Diagonal Sports Axis

The cities of Valencia and Valladolid will alternate hosting the event annually to ensure comprehensive coverage throughout Spain, following the Diagonal Sports Axis: a model designed to generate synergies between the business, sports, and social fabric of each geographic area and with regional and local institutions.

The Valladolid capital will host the second edition of SPORTCITIES in 2026, as stated by the president of the Valladolid Fair Executive Committee, Víctor Caramanzana, who firmly stated that "when cities are conceived through sport, they are built for the future."

Caramanzana also stated that "we continue with the same obsession we had 60 years ago: generating business opportunities" and wanted to emphasize the importance of this project being the first collaboration between Feria de Valladolid and another national trade fair venue.

For her part, Valladolid's Councilor for Citizen Participation and Sports, Mayte Martínez, described the collaboration between the two exhibition centers as "fundamental" and praised Valladolid's ability to attract a large number of sporting events each year, thanks to its "geographical centrality and excellent connections."

Martínez also expressed pride in Valladolid's bid to become a European City of Sport, thanks to its large number of sports facilities, as well as the numerous sports clubs and associations that are involved in sports "despite having limited resources."
